Dear Parents,

As we wrap up the first week of school, I wanted to share some great news with you. The students had a fantastic week in Kindergarten! I am so impressed with how quickly they are learning the classroom routines. A lot of new information is being introduced and it isn’t always easy. Not only do they have to learn about our class, but the rest of the school too. Lunch and recess is going well and we have met most of our special teachers that we see throughout the week. We have had a couple issues with students not staying with their class, and we are talking to the students about this. The halls are very busy, so we ask that you talk to your child about the importance of staying with their class and never going anywhere without permission. We will discuss more routines during Open House, but please review the following reminders to help ensure a great year.

GYM SHOES: students play during recess every day and have gym twice a week, gym shoes are encouraged

WATER BOTTLES: spill proof water bottles need to be brought everyday

SNACK: A healthy snack (no chips, cookies, candy, etc) should be brought daily. Snack needs to be PEANUT FREE, we have an allergy in the room, No juice/milk for snack in the classroom. Label your child’s snack with your child’s name. Separate snack from lunch. Only send a lunch bag if your child has a complete lunch from home. There has been a lot of confusion with the students between lunch and snack.

DAILY FIVE: Please send in 3 books from home to go into your child’s book box. We are introducing and practicing the components of Daily Five.

FORMS: Please return all completed forms from the 1st day, send in Instructional Fees & Writing Supply Money. They have been coming in but I’m still missing things from some families.

OPEN HOUSE: Thursday, September 15th is our Open House, 6:30-8. Plan on coming with the family to learn about Kindergarten and see the great work that is displayed in the classroom.

HOMEWORK: We will start homework after our discussion at Open House.

I know the beginning of the school year can be tough for many students. Drop offs are not always easy, but students are usually fine after a couple of minutes. Please let me know if you have any concerns and we can address them individually. I thank you in advance for communicating with me regarding any issues with the students. I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
