Dear Beaubien Bulldog Families,
When I think of February, I think of Valentine’sDay and all the cards and candy expressing love and goodwill. Children are especially sweet as they pass out cards to other children and adults. One example of this goodwill is the Student Council drive for those in need. A big thank you to everyone who donated items. The Student Council will be making the care packages this Friday and deliver to people in need over the next few weeks.
You may have heard your child talk about Olweus over the past few years and wondered what they are talking about. At school, Olweus, has become a schoolwide word synonymous with the time each week the teachers take to provide a forum for their students to talk about tough issues and collectively come to resolutions. This weekly ritual began a few years ago when we made a commitment to implement the Olweus Bully Prevention Program. We made this decision as a proactive approach to improve peer relations and make school a safer and more positive place for all students to learn and develop. To continue with this work, CPS has granted us a Restorative Practice Coach two days a week. Mr. Dana Stevens will be joining our school on Mondays and Wednesdays. We will be working with Mr. Stevens to continue our work at being arestorative school. As always, our vision is to foster a positive, healthy school climate that helps our students learn from their
mistakes. Mr. Stevens will be working with our teachers and students to embrace a restorative mindset. We will learn how to use restorative language to build community, repair harm and restore relationships as needed. Please welcome him to our family.
I have always thought of the Beaubien student body as a representation of the world. Our hope is for the small things we do here to have a ripple effect into your homes and into the community. We hope these ripples bring love and goodwill to all people as the Beaubien staff and students embrace the spirit of Valentine’s Day every day.
